essential question
what is air?
i. Earth's spheres
Learning Target: IWBAT identify the 4 spheres of the Earth and how they interact with one another.
Guiding Questions
1. What are the four spheres of the Earth? 2. How does one sphere change or recycle itself? Read Aloud Earth is a diverse planet. What makes up our planet and how does it work? Earth System Science is one way to think about the different spheres or systems that make up Earth as a whole. Our Earth System is made up of 4 major spheres. Those are the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and lithosphere. Together, they make up all the systems of our planet, both living and non-living. Each sphere of the earth interacts with one another to help drive Earth's processes. Material on Earth doesn't stay how it is. It gets recycled into other forms. |
For example, in the biosphere, plants in the ground die. They are broken down by microorganisms, tiny living things. They then become soil that helps feed new plants. In the hydrosphere, water cycles through different phases and locations. It evaporates from the oceans and then rains down onto the ground or into a lake. In the lithosphere, rocks also get recycled under Earth's surface where it is melted down and then sent back up in volcanic eruptions.

iii. water cycle
Learning Target: IWBAT describe the 5 stages of the water cycle and how it travels through the troposphere.
Homework

Task:
Create a diagram of the water cycle showing the 5 stages of the water cycle and the phases of water at each point in the cycle. You may use any materials to create your poster (i.e. markers, crayons, glitter, cotton balls, construction paper, post-its, ribbon, etc. Get creative!) You need to hae all the requirements in your diagram. Use the checklist to help you earn as many points as possible. |
